According to the revised version of curriculum guidelines, the Ministry of Education (MOE) intends to have our elementary schoolchildren learn their mother tongue---Taiwanese by means of Romanized alphabetical spelling symbols. Jesus, who the f__k is the genius 'creating' such an idea? How can you expect six-year old children who have not learned the twenty-six letters of English alphabet to learn their mother tongue this way?
In order to be politically correct, I don't object to 'indigenous language teaching' at school. However, why don't we use right ways to teach it? Flipping over all the pages of textbooks of linguistics, we will find that the linguists worldwide have a consensus that 'exposure' is the sole approach to learn any languages. That's also why the term 'mother tongue' is from, we learn our native languages by interacting with moms through listening and speaking. Therefore, listening and speaking with qualified Taiwanese teachers is the best way for kids to acquire their ability to speak Taiwanese fluently.
Please, the big shots of the MOE, for the sake of children, stop being so damn creative!
